THE ANSWER TO TRAILCAM
THEFT

Who hasn’t suffered the “mysterious disappearing” of a trailcam from the tree where it was mounted? Who hasn’t arrived one morning to that plot that he has zealously been looking after, pampering and feeding and had to face the unpleasant surprise that some light-fingered felon has removed his trailcam? Furious and helpless is how you feel when you see that the camera you bought with so much effort because it was the one model that sent photos and videos to your cell phone is gone; or deeply sad because maybe it was the one that your son offered you with his first paycheck and all his love; or miserable because that camera was brought to you by Santa last Christmas or given to you by your girlfriend on your Birthday.

After suffering such an experience, anytime we are home and think about mounting a camera somewhere in the woods, we are assailed by the fear that it might be taken away from us and that not only the money we paid for it will be gone but also a card full of immortalized moments that we treasure with care and affection. This fear of theft deprives us of being able to fully enjoy our hunting, our hunting grounds, our memories, and all of those things that make us take a deep breath.

We are left with the unsatisfied will to monitor that spot where a big boar hangs, to discover his routines, his feeding hours, assess his age, to observe him the moment he feeds or drinks and see how he behaves, how he moves wary… Because of that fear we give up the possibility to check, through the photos of our trailcam, which is the animal that has been wandering up and down that trail, or which red stag or roe deer is responsible for having marked that tree by scratching and rubbing against it or who is visiting the salt block that we strategically placed and that we see is being visited daily and licked down to the bone.

It is sad but all of us, to a greater or lesser extent, have suffered this and we have even restrained from setting up a feeder in a spot we know game have a homing instinct for just because we fear that some visitor might steal it away from us and take it to his own hunting spots or to his house. And on top of that we have to deal with the helplessness of not even being able to control, detect, catch out and capture the thief because if we set up a camera, it could suffer the same fate.

In January 2024, I was lucky enough to attend the most important archery industry event in the United States, the ATA Show, and it was there when, while cruising the aisles, I found the solution to so many headaches.

I met Brad, a fine man who told me how his father-in-law, tired of dealing with the same problem of theft, devised an ingenious and simple system to install the cameras up in the trees, without leaving the ground. I was fascinated. Thanks to the fabulous SPY HIGH SYSTEM , I am now able to place the cameras at height in a super-fast and very easy way. In addition to being protected from sight and out of reach, their elevated position offers a wider field of view.
